Solaris Install
Boot from the Installation CD by
boot cdrom
First, if you have a fresh hard drive you will be asked about partitioning. But if you are doing a re-install be prepared for no ability in the installer to re-partition.
THE INSTALLER IGNORED MY PARITIONS BELOW, MIGHT TRY ANYWAY.
To repartion type "q" when asked if it's ok to run the mini-Solaris from your swap partition. You will get a shell prompt. Now use format, partition, label ... to repartion and save your changes.
Then it's time to continue with the install
# /sbin/cd0_install
It will then install into the swap and reboot.
You'll be asked if you want to configure DHCP. I choose no, even though I normally like DHCP. The reason is, it doesn't know how to grab DNS servers from DHCP, it doesn't push a hostname to DHCP... so if you want your box to have a certain hostname -- you will have to configure that in the DHCP Server... Best in the end to just do static IP and hostname and DNS.
Avoid letting it find your default route, just force it in.
Once done configuring, it will ask you if you want to install from CD/DVD, NFS, or HTTP... I choose CD. Insert Solaris Operating System.
